IMPLEMENTATION OF ‘THE RIGHT TO INFORMATION ACT, 2005’ IN THE COLLEGES
What is RTI?
The Right to Information Act, 2005 is a landmark legislation enacted by the Parliament of India, which gives every Indian citizen the legal right to access information from public authorities. The Act came into force on 15th June 2005, aiming to make government and publicly funded institutions more transparent, accountable, and responsive to the needs of the people.The Right to Information Act, 2005 has been enacted by the Parliament and has come into force from 15 June, 2005. This Act provides for right to information for citizens to secure access to information under the control of public authorities in order to promote transparency and accountability in the working of every public authority. All Universities and Colleges established by law made by Parliament or by State Legislature or by notification by the appropriate Government or owned, controlled or substantially financed directly or indirectly by funds provided by the Government shall come within the meaning of a Public Authority under this Act.
B.N.College, Dhoraiya has constituted the RTI Cell as per above Government Norm & regulations. The college abides to the Act enacted by the Parliament RTI Act 2005.
Who Can File an RTI?
Any Indian citizen can file an RTI application. There is no age, gender, profession, or educational qualification restriction. This includes:
- Students
- Parents
- Faculty members
- General public
Anyone seeking clarity or transparency in the operations of a public authority can request information under the RTI Act.
Why is RTI Important?
The RTI Act is a powerful tool for strengthening democracy and good governance. It is important because it:-

How RTI Helps Students
RTI is especially beneficial for students in several ways:
- Students can request copies of their evaluated answer sheets or revaluation status.
- They can seek information about admission procedures, seat allocations, and fee structures.
- RTI ensures fair treatment and accountability from institutions.
- It empowers students to question irregularities and obtain clarity in administrative or academic matters.
Role of RTI in Educational Institutions
All Universities and Colleges established by or substantially funded by the Government (central or state) are considered public authorities under the RTI Act. They are legally required to:
- Maintain transparent records of academic, administrative, and financial activities.
- Designate a Public Information Officer (PIO) to handle RTI queries.
- Respond to information requests in a time-bound manner (usually within 30 days).
RTI at B.N. College, Dhoraiya
In line with the RTI Act, 2005, B.N. College, Dhoraiya (B.Ed.) has set up a dedicated RTI Cell. The purpose of the RTI Cell is to:
- Provide access to information regarding college activities.
- Respond promptly to RTI applications from students, staff, or the public.
- Ensure transparency and accountability in academic, financial, and administrative functions.
- Assist applicants in exercising their right to information effectively.
RTI PROCEDURE
- Application in writing can be submitted directly to the concerned Public Information Officer (PIO) in English//Hindi/Marathi language.
- Pay the prescribed fee of Rs. 10/-.
- Within 30 days, the information will be provided.
